SPECIAL STATEMENT FROM THE STEERING COMMITTEE

OF THE CHRISTIAN/MUSLIM DIALOGUE

OF LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY

September 2020

As Christians, Muslims and Jews, we fully support the call for an end to endemic and systemic anti-Black racism in the United States of America. Although this is one of the stated aims of Black Lives Matter in the present demonstrations, we in no way intend this resolution to imply any blanket endorsement of this organization. We do not support vandalism and burning of Christian churches and statues, attacks on Jewish synagogues and shops, nor assaults on Muslim mosques such as we have seen carried out in these demonstrations.

THEREFORE, WE CALL UPON OUR FELLOW CHRISTIANS MUSLIMS AND JEWS, AS WELL AS THE LEADERS OF BLACK LIVES MATTER AND OF ORGANIZATIONS SYMPATHETIC TO THEM, TO OPPOSE ALL VIOLENCE AGAINST CHURCHES, MOSQUES, SYNAGOGUES AND OTHER SACRED SITES, AND AGAINST SACRED OBJECTS AND BOOKS SUCH AS BIBLES, QUR’ANS, TORAH SCROLLS, OR RELIGIOUS STATUES.

WE ASK THESE SUPPORTERS TO DENOUNCE ALL VERBAL AND PHYSICAL ATTACKS AGAINST ANY HUMAN BEING ON ACCOUNT OF HIS OR HER RELIGION.

Messages about this resolution may be sent to the Steering Committee using the Contact Us page on this website.  https://cmdlex.org/

Sincerely,

Charles Upton, Executive Director
